The Favourite was a favorite of Cosmo voters at the 2018 Awards, winning Best Film of 2018 as well as Best Actress (Olivia Colman), Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Weisz), and Best Comedic Film (continuing a tradition where the Best Film winner usually wins either Best Drama or Best Comedy).
But in a rare twist, it did not win Best Director, which often goes to the Best Film winner. Bradley Cooper won that honor for A Star is Born (2018), which also won Best Drama and beat out Bohemian Rhapsody for Best Musical. Rounding out the top annual honors were Rami Malik as Best Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody, Mahershala Ali as Best Supporting Actor for Green Book, Crazy Rich Asians for Best Ensemble, and BlackKklansman for Best Script.
After about a dozen previous attempts, A Letter to Three Wives was finally inducted into the Best Films Hall of Fame. Rita Moreno and James Dean were inducted into the Actress and Actor Halls of Fame, while Catherine O’Hara and Jack Lemmon were inducted into the respective Comedic Acting Halls of Fame. Lemmon had previously been inducted into the Best Actor Hall of Fame at the 2004 Awards.
As with last year, the Academy decided not to have awards in the “worst categories,” instead expanding on the Specialty One-Off Awards. This included a memorial award for Best Stan Lee Cameo in recognization of Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee, who was famous for his cameo appearances in every film based on a Marvel Comic. He won, ironically, not for a Marvel film but for an appearance in a DC comics film: Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.
