Synopsis

The first awards were held in the Spring of 2001. At an Oscars party earlier that year, ballots were handed out for partygoers to nominate their favorite films and performances in a variety of categories, some serious, some quirky. As this was the inaugural year for the awards, we felt there was a lot of catching up to do, so all of the initial awards were Lifetime Achievements, open to all films and actors of all time.

Voters were given the opportunity to cast five nominations in each category. For each category, they could vote for five different nominees or vote for the same nominee in more than one slot. Passion counts! (But perhaps it counted a little too much, as the process allowed for some unusual nominations to occur.) The top five films or individuals were nominated, and the same voters were later given new ballots to choose which of the nominees should win.

A private ceremony was held a few months later to announce the winners. The top three categories – Best Film of All Time (won by The Wizard of Oz), Best Actress of All Time (Katharine Hepburn), and Best Actor of All Time (Dustin Hoffman) – were made into annual Hall of Fame categories, with new films and actors to be inducted each year.
