Films Eligible for the 2020 Cosmos

2020 was a crazy year for films and for cinematic awards.

The Oscars had to make massive adjustments to their eligibility requirements. With most theaters closed for most of the year (including all theaters in Los Angeles, a requirement for Oscar eligibility), the Oscars had to accommodate films released only on streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max, and Hulu. As producers dithered with release dates, hoping (in vain) the pandemic would end early enough for a fall cinematic season, the Oscars also extended their eligibility year, ending it on February 28, 2021 rather than with the end of the 2020 calendar year.

The Cosmos have been similarly delayed, and will also follow the Oscar’s eligibility rules. You can find a PDF of the Oscar’s 2020 eligible films online, but we’re also listing them here. Note that there may be some confusion on whether an early 2021 film is eligible. To verify, check IMDb to see if a film had a theatrical or Internet release between January 1, 2020 through February 28, 2021 — or just ask us.

We will be releasing the 2020 nomination ballots within the next week.
