In Memoriam: Betty White (1922-2021)

Legendary actress Betty White (January 17, 1922 – December 31, 2021) has passed away at the age of 99, just a few weeks shy of her one hundredth birthday.

A television icon since the 1950s, Betty White is best remembered to Cosmo voters as Sue Ann Nivens, the ever-horny “Happy Homemaker” on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and as the addled Rose Nyland on The Golden Girls and its spin-off, The Golden Palace. She was the last surviving opening credited cast member of both sitcoms. Three of her MTM costars — Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLoud, and Ed Asner — passed away earlier this year.

At the 2015 Cosmique Movie Awards, she was inducted into the Best Comedic Actresses Hall of Fame. She had previously been nominated in 2013 and 2014, losing to Bette Midler and Carol Burnett, respectively.

With regards to her longevity, she attributed it to avoiding eating “anything green” (FoodAndWine.com) and “vodka is kind of a hobby” (David Letterman).
