The Independent Spirit Awards, which honors smaller-budget “indie” films, has released their nominations for 2019 films, and three films top the list with five nominations each:
- Lighthouse
- Honey Boy
- Uncut Gems
Those films are followed by Give Me Liberty, with four nominations, and seven films with three nominations each: Clemency, The Farewell, Hustlers, Last Black Man in San Francisco, Luce, Marriage Story, and The Third Wife.
Deadline reports that the critically-acclaimed Jojo Rabbit was deemed ineligible for anything except the foreign film award:
However, why is Fox Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit, which won the top prize at the Toronto Film Festival, missing? That pic was reportedly made for $14M and had a shocking zero presence today. Apparently that movie was only available for international film as all the team is from New Zealand. That’s odd given the fact that international film is typically designated a foreign-language pic.
