People A-Z list finally launches

When the Cosmique Movie Awards launched the revamped website in November of 2019, one of the promised features included a People A-Z list, intended to alphabetically list every individual ever nominated for an acting or directing award.

Some random facts about nominated individuals as of 2023.

  • A total of 1,045 individuals have been nominated for one or more individual awards. Of these, 288 (28%) have won at least one award, while 757 (72%) have never won an award.
  • A total of 470 individuals who were ever nominated for an individual award have also been nominated to share in one or more ensemble awards. A total of 6,499 different people are among the casts of ensemble-nominated films, so 6,029 of them could be retroactively included with ensemble nominations if they ever receive an individual nomination.
  • Cate Blanchett is both the most-nominated and most-awarded individual, winning six out of 24 individual nominations. (She also shares in two ensemble wins out of ten ensemble nominations.) She’s followed by Scarlett Johansson, who has won five out of 20 individual nominations and shares in two ensemble awards out of nine ensemble nominations. They are followed by Ian McKellen and Meryl Streep, who have each won three individual awards out of sixteen individual nominations. McKellen shares in three ensemble awards out of 13 ensemble nominations. Streep’s casts haven’t won any of her eight ensemble nominations.
  • With 14 individual nominations, Nicole Kidman has the most individual nominations without a single individual win. She also shares in six ensemble nominations but her casts haven’t won any of them.
  • Of nominated individuals who share in ensemble nominations, Ian McKellen has the most ensemble nominations and awards, winning three out of 13 ensemble nominations. He’s followed by Cate Blanchett, who won two of her ten ensemble nominations. They’re followed by Don Cheadle, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Scarlett Johansson, who share in two ensemble wins out of nine ensemble nominations.
  • Robin Williams was the first person to be inducted into both the acting and comedic acting Halls of Fame. He was inducted into the Best Comedic Actors Hall of Fame at the 2010 awards and the Best Actors Hall of Fame at the 2014 awards. Others who have subsequently achieved this include Rosalind Russell (2006 and 2016), Madeline Kahn (2003 and 2019), and Cloris Leachman (2010 and 2020). All of them were inducted into the Best Comedic Actresses Hall of Fame before being inducted into the Best Actresses Hall of Fame.
  • Although we don’t have a comprehensive list of birth dates, we believe from our spot-checking that W.C. Fields was born first. He was born on January 29, 1880, which would make him 143 if he were alive today. He passed away on December 25, 1946, at the age of 66.
  • We believe that Mary Boland, who played the Countess deLave in The Women (1939), was the first-born female Cosmo nominee. She was born on January 28, 1882, just two years (almost to the day) after first-born nominee W.C. Fields. She passed away on June 23, 1965, at the age of 83.
  • At this time, no one with a surname (or first name without a surname) beginning with the letter X has ever been nominated.
  • A total of 93 individuals with a surname (or first name without a surname) beginning with the letter C have been nominated to date, making it currently the most popular sort letter. That’s followed by the letter B with 92 nominated individuals, the letter M with 90, and the letter S with 89. Other than the letter X, which has no nominated individuals, the least popular sort name letters are the letters Q and U.
