This year marks the 50th anniversary of Gay Pride celebrations in both New York and San Francisco. The first Pride celebration for each city was held on the last Sunday of June 1970 to mark the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York.
To mark the 50th anniversary milestone, we’ve decided to do a poll of your favorite LGBTQ films. We’ve always interpreted “LGBTQ films” as films that portray significant lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or otherwise “queer” characters or themes. The characters don’t have to be leading roles, nor do the themes need to be predominate, but they should be significant enough to register.
This list was created using the winners of the annual Best LGBTQ Film of the Year award as well as the winner and fellow nominees for the Best Film with Significant Lesbian & Gay Themes Lifetime Achievement award that was held at the first Cosmique Movie Awards.
When you’ve made your selection, be sure to scroll down to the bottom and click “Submit” for your vote to register.
